A Canada-Wide Community for Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy Care

We bring together persons with lived experience, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers to address pregnancy-related near-miss events and deaths. Through collaborative work, we co-develop practical tools and resources to bridge research and clinical practice, as we strive for a culture of equity, inclusion, and safety for all women and gender-diverse people in Canada.

Image of a circle, within it there are pregnant people, children, families and other people who are healthcare professionals and others who are working and talking to one another. All these people are connected to things like birthing bags, and plants, flowers and gems.

What We Do

We co-create impactful knowledge mobilization activities to improve pregnancy and post-pregnancy care and help reduce severe maternal morbidity and mortality.

The People We Serve

The GEM Hub Community serves persons with lived experience of pregnancy, their family and support people, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers.

From Research to Systems Change

The GEM Hub mobilizes knowledge to address pregnancy-related near-miss events and deaths. We turn research into real-world solutions by:

  • Supporting partnered research with affected communities

  • Developing practical tools and resources to improve clinical care

  • Building a community of practice to reflect and share what we learn along the way

The Community at The Heart of the Hub

The GEM Hub is powered by 80+ members, including persons with lived experience of pregnancy, their family and support people, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers. Together, we are The GEM Hub Community.

Collaborative and Inclusive

Our approach balances diverse perspectives through a clear governance structure. We have worked to establish group norms, advisory frameworks, and recognition practices.

The Land That Holds Us

The GEM Hub Team is situated on the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation, the recognized custodians of the lands and waters of Tiohtià:ke/Montréal.

In our acknowledgement of the ongoing impacts of colonialism, we continue learning individually and communally to facilitate systemic changes, especially those led by Indigenous peoples and communities, with particular focus on pregnancy and post-pregnancy care.
